What not to do when you have a "Liquid Damage"

I have seen many Macs with Liquid Damage, whether it's Coke, wine, or even a glass of water, and on most occasions I have been able to fix them. But I do feel sorry for some people who have only had their Macs for a few months or even weeks. Apple don't seem to want to fix this under their "Apple Care" warranty, something I don't quite understand. But as with many of these cases, clients who have has this happen to don't seem to know where the "liquid" (in some cases) has come from, nevertheless Apple still doesn't "want" to repair this type of issue under the warranty.

So some people, rightly so, take matters into their on hands and sometimes do this...

...not something I would recommend though!

Unconfirmed: Mac OS X 10.6.3 ships in "hours" report claims

We're not putting our hat in the ring to say this is true of false, but figured it may be worth putting out a heads-up that Softpedia claims the next Snow Leopard upgrade could lope out as soon as "tomorrow", or perhaps within "hours".

From the report: "Softpedia has reason to believe Apple is very close to releasing Mac OS X 10.6.3 to the public in under 12 hours. The most recent builds seeded to developers stand as evidence that development has followed a straight line, with few impediments.

"To their knowledge, developers see no issues in the focus areas they’ve been assigned, putting the 700+MB update on track for release by the end of the day. Mac OS X version 10.6.3 will be the third incremental update to Apple’s Snow Leopard operating system, delivering maintenance and security fixes," the report explains.

Just last week, Apple shipped the latest pre-release test beta of Mac OS X 10.6.3. Developers were asked to focus testing on three areas: AirPort, GraphicsDrivers and QuickTime.

Next Generation MacBook Pro wishlist: USB3, WiDi, 3G?

Even with iPad-mania in full swing, we're still interested in seeing Apple's next generation MacBook Pros, which should be released on any given Tuesday. But will these MacBooks simply be Core i5/i7 processor updates or will they have something more? I've already talked about why a 3G card would make sense, but there are some other technologies lurking in the shadows that would be great additions to these machines.

I spoke to a Buffalo Technologies guy at Macworld who seemed pretty up on USB3 in the marketplace. He correctly said most new mid to high end motherboards will have USB3 in 2010 and ASUS has recently purchased 5,000 Buffalo USB3 modules for testing their USB3 motherboards. He said other companies have been purchasing their technology for testing as well (without going into detail but with that "knowing look"). Also, he noted that Snow Leopard has native support baked in for USB3, so it seems like it is on Apple's radar. What better machine to put the new backwards compatible 10-pin connectors into than MacBook Pros?

Most unlikely, but ever so interesting: Intel released their new WiDi Wireless display technology at CES this year. It requires Core i3/i5/i7 processors and Intel motherboards (so no NVIDIA). The technology itself is supposed to be for Windows 7 64-bit only, but wouldn't it be nice to see something like this on MacBooks? It basically compresses HD video and sends the signal over 802.11N Wifi to a node on the network which then connects via HDMI to a display.

We'd love to see this type of technology on our MacBooks. Wouldn't you?

Google may split Buzz from Gmail following outcry

Bradley Horowitz at the TED conference today said his company may already be planning to separate Google Buzz from its Gmail connections. The move isn't certain but would let users exist on Buzz without having to link it to a real e-mail address. A possible accompanying migration feature would also give the option of redirecting other Buzz users to a new Gmail-free name....

Macworld 2010 continues large presence in Apple's absence

Day two of IDG's 2010 Macworld Expo continued to bring large crowds, in spite of the impact from Apple's absence. Exhibits and events are limited to Moscone Center's North Hall, rather than extending across the street to the South Hall, yet the crowds were heavy again in day two....

Data Recovery

In recent day we seem to be getting more and more data decovery projects. This on it's own wouldn't be a problem, but with some data loss comes regret, regret that the data wasn't backed up.

Fortunately we are able to recovery data from crashed hard drives and Macs but it's never a good time to loose that important file, or worse, pictures!

With everything being on your Macs hard drive, it's always best to back up your data. Contact us and we will put in place a system that can backup your data. Then you will never have to 'recover' it again!

MacRepair vs MacJunky

In 2008 MacRepair & Project started proceeding to sue MacJunky for trademark infringement. Needless to say we put up a fight and won on every count that they put forward to the court.

The main body of the complaint was that they accused MacJunky of using their trade name/mark (Mac Repair) without authorization. Our case was that the words 'Mac' & 'Repair' although trademarks of that company, are too specific to repairing Macs and the complaint should not be upheld.

Also while the court case was being prepared they accused MacJunky of all sorts of 'other' infringements that were way too outrageous to mention.
